Initially, Golden Rice was developed by German & Swiss scientists. Later on, Syngenta and other seed companies became involved by donating free materials, technologies, and resources to scientists working with Golden Rice. The current version of Golden Rice will be available for humanitarian utilization (primarily farmers) in developing, poor countries, for free. The first countries to receive free Golden Rice seeds, are the Philippines, Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, and Vietnam Currently, this project is being administered and maintained by the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI).
